Definition - Identity theft is when someone uses your personal information to use or buy or obtain something frequently in that persons name.
 
How does Identity Theft Happen?
 
When someone knows key personal information about you they can often find ways to get more information from other business that you have, to get a new cell phone account, buy a new computer, get more services, bills charged to your name, and it hurts your credit.
 
Is Identify Theft Illegal?
It depends on what country you live in, If you live in the USA it is defiantly illegal, Mr. Bush has also stated that you will get a harsh penalty for it.
 
How Can I Avoid This?
1.  Shred your bills that you are going to disregard.
2.  Don't share your social security number.
3.  Don't share your account number.
4.  Read your bills and statements.
5.  Password protect your accounts, (Don't Share your passcode)
 
These are very important steps to take, people even our own children who will call centers with very little information just to trick an agent to get more information.
 
You need to take this serious, because this is a growing concern on the internet, business grows and Identity theft is getting much worse.
 
I think I Have Been A Victim Of Identify Theft What Can I Do?
 
1.  Call the police and find out what they say.
2.  Contact the place were the Identify Thief happened, what do they say.
3.  Call your credit card company.
4.  Call your credit bureau.
5.  If applicable change your social security number.
 
Identity Theft is a serious crime but one that can be prevented if you take care to use the proper security.
 
Yes if you have been victimized it will be a pain, but you can have this issue resolved, and regain a lot of your money back, but its important to be careful.
